My First Championship
We wanted to develop a team basketball system, but we didn’t have enough money to hire players for the tactical system. Our talented players were all young, and they needed more improvement.
What we could do was save money and train, then try to finish in the top three and move up to a higher-level league.
We saved some money and hired three ready-to-play players. But we weren’t the most powerful team in the league. One team had a superstar player, and they had the highest average rating. We were second.
We wanted to win a championship. We wanted to give the players a cup in their careers.
Let’s look at our opponent. The superstar was powerful. We couldn’t stop him from scoring, and our defenders might get a lot of fouls. Their average skill rating was higher than ours.
They had a 9-man rotation, and some players played long minutes. We had a 10-man rotation and better rebounding ability.
They were more powerful, but might have stamina issues in the fourth quarter.
So our strategy was to play fast and run as many fast breaks as possible. Both teams would use more energy.
The match usually ran like this: they won the first three quarters and the first half of the last quarter, and then we came back.
The result was 2-1 in the finals, and we won the championship.
I think the championship came from the right tactics. We moved up to a level five league. The rotations there were more reasonable, and the teams were more powerful. Our target for next season is to stay in level five and let our young players improve.
